Well-Rounded Mama cites a study that finds, if you put would-be healthcare providers on the restricted diets many doctors prescribe for overweight to obese patients, they have much more sympathy for fat people.

Yeah, 1200 and 1500 calorie diets are no fun for the majority of people, whether you're fat or not.

I think Well-Rounded Mama makes a good point, too. They had these students ATTEMPT to follow these diets for a week. One week. And they talked about how miserable it was and how it gave them more sympathy for fat people. The thing is, when doctors recommend these diets, they recommend them for much longer, than a week, if not for-fucking-ever. I'm thinking, a quarter. An entire course built around living what you may, at some point, think about prescribing someone.

Sorry for the drive-by posting, but I felt this was important to share.
