The woman was raped. But because in many Fundamentalist interpretations of Islam, unless another man says he witnessed it and that HE thinks she was raped, it's adultery.
This is where victim-blaming goes. I suppose women in the US should be grateful the stones here are (mostly) only metaphorical.

Date: 2008-10-30 07:23 pm (UTC)And I know the concept of killing the woman as well did NOT originate with these sects of Islam, as there are precedents for that in ancient Hebrew law as well. No citations now, but I'll try to track them down later.
People tend to forget that Islam, Judaism and Christianity pretty much all spring from the same well. Maybe that's what makes them so angry at each other.
